‘Save the Alps’ – OSRAM’s climate protection campaign

OSRAM energy-saving light bulbs – good for the climate, snow and the wallet

Once again this year OSRAM is actively supporting climate protection in the mountains with its ‘Save the Alps’ campaign. On the 6 December, the light bulb manufacturer will be introducing a climate protection promotion for the second time in Austria, and now also in Switzerland. Altogether the project involves ten ski resorts where winter sport fans are encouraged to take an active role. When visitors return their lift passes, the deposit they get back can be exchanged for an energy-saving light bulb, thereby saving both money and CO2 emissions. The promotion runs until April 2009.

A strong partnership for climate protection
A total of ten winter sport regions are enthusiastic supporters of OSRAM’s climate protection campaign. Along with the Arosa slopes, the other participating areas are the Engelberg, Hauser-Kaibling, Stuhleck, Bad Kleinkirchheim, Lofer, Großarl, Hinterstoder, Hochkössen and Patscherkofel slopes. ‘We are pleased these ski resorts are joining forces with us in protecting the climate’, said Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM. ‘The “Save the Alps” promotion offers a wonderful opportunity to encourage consumers to protect the climate, so that many generations to come can enjoy snow in the Alps.’

Energy-saving light bulbs – good for the environment and nature
Changing to energy-saving light bulbs not only pays off in terms of climate protection, but is also good news for household finances. Depending on the value of the deposit, exchanging a ski pass at the end of the day for an energy-saving light bulb could mean a saving of between 30 and 60% on light bulb prices, and 80% on energy. In concrete terms, exchanging a 75 watt light bulb for a 14 watt energy-saving light bulb could mean a total saving of €63 over a lifespan of six years. The amount of CO2 emissions saved, 186 kg, is equal to that produced by a mid-range car over a distance of 1,076 km. That is three times the driving distance from Munich to Salzburg and back, and approximately twice the driving distance from Munich and Zurich and back.
