Mini-sleeping and working cabins at Munich Airport with lighting ambiences by OSRAM
Powernapping at the push of a button
Globe-trotters and business travellers can now check into futuristic "napcabs" at Terminal 2 of Munich Airport, giving them a pleasant way to pass the time during stop-overs. The approx. 4-m2 sleeping and working cabins offer a comfortable bed, desk and Internet access. An ingenious lighting concept by OSRAM provides the right lighting, creating a range of atmospheres for stimulation and relaxation.
Napcabs were developed by five students for the 2007 Innovation Competition held by Technical University of Munich. The aim of the winning project was to offer travellers a way to spend their airport transfer times as pleasantly as possible. There are currently two of these little working and sleeping cabins located on level H at Gate H32, but more are planned. The appropriate light is generated by the "EASY Color Control" light control system and LINEARlight LED modules from OSRAM. They permit the generation of a very wide range of light colours and brightness settings. Travellers can decide whether they would like working or relaxing lighting in the napcab at the press of a button on a touch panel.
Simply natural lighting
When developing its latest lighting solutions, OSRAM took nature as its guide. "Just as light changes throughout the day in a natural habitat, artificial light should also change in our homes or workplaces," explained Andreas Wojtysiak, Light and Health Innovation Manager at OSRAM. And this is why the "EASY Color Control" light control system uses a bright, bluish light – similar to that which occurs during the day in the natural world – as a stimulating working light, and warm light with a high proportion of reds for relaxation.
